INTANANEWS – Regional Secretary of Minahasa Regency, Lynda Watania, officially opened the Agricultural Extension Technical Meeting organized by the Minahasa Regency Agricultural Service.
The activity began with a report submitted by the Head of Extension, Olvi Poluakan SPt, followed by agricultural instructors from 25 sub-districts in Minahasa, Wednesday (20/11/2024) in the Agricultural Service Hall.
In her speech, Lynda Watania emphasized the important role of agricultural instructors in supporting the development of the agricultural sector.
“Agricultural instructors have a strategic role in the development of the agricultural sector. Through this technical meeting, it is hoped that participants will gain new knowledge that is relevant to the challenges and developments in the agricultural sector,” he said.
The Regional Secretary also highlighted the importance of the agricultural sector for the economy of Minahasa Regency. He revealed that the development of the West Langowan plantation area, which has now been approved as an agricultural and tourism area by the central government, could encourage a food self-sufficiency program.
“All parties involved in the agricultural sector, including extension workers, have an obligation to support the progress of this sector in Minahasa,” he added.
This event presented speakers from various institutions, such as the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency, the Agricultural Technology Assessment Center, as well as lecturers from the Faculty of Agriculture, Sam Ratulangi University Manado.
Head of the Minahasa Agriculture Service, Dr. Ir. Margaretha Ratulangi, M.AP, hopes that this activity can answer the challenges of the agricultural sector, such as climate change and food security.
“We hope that this collaboration can strengthen the role of extension workers as the front guard in assisting farmers,” he said.
The event ended with an interactive discussion session, providing the opportunity for participants to have direct dialogue with the resource persons and deepen the material that had been presented.
It is hoped that this activity can strengthen the agricultural sector in Minahasa Regency and improve the welfare of farmers.(nes)
